Following Spirit

I have now been in Marin County about one month. The beauty of this area is feeding my soul. The trees and the hills embrace and surround the towns and everywhere I look I see the earth and its splendor. Spending time in nature is my discovery to my true essense.

My body grows stronger as I hike into the forest and experience the sounds of all the nature spirits. On one of my hikes, I heard a hissing sound and looked in the direction of the sound, as I looked down to my surprise I saw a large rattlesnake. Without hesitation, I ran back to my car looking back to see if it was following me. When I got my breath and knew that I escaped a nasty situation, I asked myself, why did I create this in my reality; and as I sat quietly and listened for an answer, I heard an inner voice say, “You are taking a path less traveled and it can be dangerous.  You must stay very aware and listen to spirit. Keep your intentions clear and keep your attention to what is happening in the present moment.

The next few weeks led me into several situations that had a significant effect in opening my heart. The first was a four hour symposium called, Awakening The Dreamer, Changing The Dream. It was through the Pachamama Alliance in San Francisco. My heart was filled with sorrow and guilt when I viewed a video that depicted our planet and what was happening and how we are destroying the earth.

As we continued, we watched what is emerging on our planet with the environment, social justice and spiritual consciousness. And I began to feel empowered and hopeful that I can and do make a difference by the choices I make everyday. I bring my bags everywhere and I bring my bottle for water and my cup for coffee. No more paper cups and plastic lids. It may seem like a small thing to do however it feels like I am contributing to the environment in a positive way.

In December, they will be doing a 2 day training program and I plan to attend…..The Pachamama Alliance is a great organization and I would like to be a part it.

The next weekend, spirit led me to another powerful opening of my heart. I participated in healing ceremonies for trees. As I sat underneath a beautiful redwood tree, I received another message from spirit telling me to sit in stillness and to find my tree. The facilitator of the ceremonies, mentioned that Julia Butterfly Hill, a spiritual activist, does a program called “What’s Your Tree” and it assists people in discovering their next mission in Life. I had noticed that Julia was going to be at Spirit Rock Meditation Center doing a full day on Spiritual Activism. I did not hesitate and signed up.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning as I drove to the Meditation Center. I got there early and I took a hike to the top of one of their hills and saw a grand view of the trees and the valley. As I walked in I saw Julia right away and we spoke and made a connection. The day involved rigorous yoga and my body responded positively. We sat in stillness and listened to the wise words coming from a woman who took a courageous stand and lived in a tree for 2 years and 8 days until there was a decision made that the trees would not be cut down. Julia is my Joan Of Arc…………I am so proud and blessed to have been able to spend the day with her.

Now I take my courageous stand into the unknown, one step at a time knowing I am supported and loved by Mother Earth and my spiritual sisters and brothers. I give thanks for all my blessings.
